I've been taking it since February. No side effects far as I can tell. I thought for a while it was causing insomnia, with nervous twitches at night, but my doc didn't think so. She ordered some blood tests and found out I was badly depleted on the B12 front, so I got a B12 shot. Another week later got another one. Vitamin B12 is absorbed *only* in the lower part of the upper intestine, and mine is gone, so she says I'll likely need a Vit.B12 shot every month or so. The sleeping trouble went away after the first shot, so we attributed that to the B12 deficiency. I am going to ask my GI doc about the Asacol, though, because my understanding is that it's mostly effective for the LOWER intestine, and I don't have any troubles there, I have Crohn's only in the UPPER intestine, so I'm thinking I should be on Pentasa maybe instead of the Asacol.
Are you taking it, Carol, or thinking about it, or what? The info that comes with it cautions about possible side effects, but I don't think I've had any. I do notice, however, that if I forget to take it and skip a day or two, I'm back in the bathroom not having any fun!!
