I get my crystallized ginger at the health food store. If you're not absolutely *crazy* about the taste of ginger, I'd recommend skipping the crystallized. I don't think it's gross, but it is STRONG. It's made by steeping pieces of the root in sugar till they're candied.
By the way, I've found that ginger *candies* - hard candies, like altoids - are not real useful in this situation. Robyn recommends capsules, and I'm sure she's right about them being stronger than even the candied stuff.
I'm well acquainted with the want-to-die feeling, unfortunately. I hope some of this works for you! It goes without saying, I'm sure, but you're not consuming anything caffeinated, are you? I actually found my panics were a lot worse when I was drinking a lot of tea/soda.
Too funny about your college roommate! You'll laugh, but... I moved here in September, and I've been waiting 9 LONG MONTHS to see a damn moose!! Everyone I know has seen one, including people that don't live here... I bet I'll live here the rest of my life and never see one! Where in Maine was she?
