Severe Bloating with Chest Pain
06/03/04 07:06 PM

I have had severe abdominal bloating for 9 years. Followed all diets for IBS. Have gotten the million dollar workup for GI. Have constant chest pain for 4 years. Ruled out heart. They say I have esophageal spasms. Can IBS cause esophageal spasms and constant chest pain. I get no relief from meds for IBS, and have bloating 24 hours a day. Can IBS cause these symptons. Is there and advice or medicine someone recommends. Please HELP!!!!

Hi Michael
What's great about this site is that there are SOOOO many helpful people with experience with all types of symptoms and experience with many different medications and supplements...while I dont have much advice there are others who I am SURE can help you out!

- - As for the bloating, have you tried FENNEL TEA???? It eases bloating tremendously for a lot of people, if you have not tried it, please do!!! - -

Chest pain?
06/03/04 07:27 PM

Does IBS with constant bloating cause chest pain 24 hours a day? Does anyone out there have esophageal spasms and IBS? Doctors don't know if IBS is causing esophageal spasms from IBS or not?

Vicam

Hi Michael,
I have GERD and I find that I get a lot of quite severe chest pain from that. I don't know if it's esophageal spasms or not, but it is very painful. Also, IBS can cause excess gas and if you get trapped gas in the chest area that can be quite painful as well.

I don't think IBS itself causes chest pain, but I'm not 100% sure...maybe someone else here knows?

Good luck,
Kelly

Chest pain?

Have no reflux. Got the 24 ph monitor. No acid reflux. Have severe chest pain for 4 years. Claim it is esophageal spasms. No meds have worked. Does anyone out there have this or do you think IBS with severe bloating is causing chest pain? Any HELP would be appreciated!!!!

Hi Michael,

Sorry you are having chest pains. It is very important that you have been to the doctor and had tests run to rule out heart problems.

Having said that, my bloating and gas pains are usuallly right under the breast bone not necessarily in the chest area. I know people that have chest pain from acid reflux, but you said you don't have that. Also, I know people that have chest pain from stress. Have you considered changing doctors? If it is spasms, it seems like there should be some meds to help. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Help!!! Severe Bloating 24 hrs a day!!!!
06/04/04 06:32 AM

Does anyone recommend any medication for severe bloating. Have tried every diet. Eat plain oatmeal, and are bloated. Have tried Elavil for pain and bloating, and Hyoscyamine. These have not worked. Any advice or medication that someone has tried and had good results. Please help!!!

I am like that all the time too. I haven't found an answer yet, but stay on the message boards, someone will know a solution.

Ugh, I'm like that also. I just picked up some peppermint oil capsules and some acidolphilus pearls. I also drink fennel tea.

A heating pad usually works if I'm really uncomfy and am trying to fall asleep.

Other than that, nothing seems to help.

What a pain in the arse!!

Does anyone have constant chest pain and IBS bloating with no reflux. Have had tests. Not heart or lung problems. Could IBS be doing this? Does anyone have these same symptons? Any advice would be appreciated!!!!

Michael, sweetie, you've been posting a lot about this. I'm so sorry you're still hurting. Yes, IBS could be doing this. I was walking around with a funny burning hurting feeling just under my breastbone most of the afternoon.

Here's my advice:
1. Take three deep breaths.
2. Take some Mylanta or Maalox.
3. Eat some plain white bread or a plain bagel or plain white rice.
4. Take some Benadryl and some Tylenol and go to bed. Try to get 8 hours sleep.
5. When you get up tomorrow, eat more plain soluble fiber foods for breakfast, then log on and post an answer to this thread to let me know how you feel.

Deal? Feel better and sweet dreams.

Michael, please let us know some more about yourself/what you're taking medicine/supplement wise and how you're doing so we can help you!!!!
