It's not milk itself that's a hard one for me - I never drank alot of the stuff to begin with. It's the cheese! I LOVE cheese and it's so hard for me to be as sparing as I should with it. Soy cheese is NOT the same. It doesn't melt very well and the texture is all wrong - they can also never quite get the flavor right either in sharp cheddar - my favorite cheese! It often gives me a tummy ache - but lots of things give me a tummy ache! I try to be sparing, but I think this will always be a cheat for me. Ice cream is a big one too - but I can deal with sorbet when the dairy is getting to me.
For those who are looking for milk alternatives, when I lived in China and couldn't get milk (Chinese people don't drink it except powdered and that's all wrong) we used almond milk for some things and rice milk works as well. The sweetened products are better than the plain - which tend to have horrible aftertaste. Good luck.
