Claire, I'll confess. I still drink Lactaid fat free milk (that's the lactose free brand here). I don't recommend it to others as perhaps I have a milder case of IBS. But it settles fine for me. I have about 16 oz a day always with soluble fiber and after a soluble fiber supplement, and I've been D free for over 4 months now.

I think the key is to listen to your body. It will tell you if you're okay or if you're in denial. But as I said, I DO NOT recommend that other people drink milk just because I seem to be able to get away with it. Heather is right, in general soy or rice milk are MUCH safer for MOST people.
