Hi there, Cutie!
Yeah, protein powder works real well in smoothies. If you go to the health food store, you'll find all different flavories -- including chocolate! -- but I like vanilla best. GREAT in a fruit smoothie!
Have you tried Kree's infamous mac & soy cheese? I had it for lunch today. It's fab! (Okay, so I add a little extra cheese.)
I also love scrambled Egg Beaters. I add soy cheese and grilled onion -- YUMMERS! Excellent protein here.....
What about those protein bars -- Luna I think? I don't eat them -- never have -- so I can't say anything about them. However, they've been discussed here at length -- try a search for "Luna" and see what comes up.
My fave protein is salmon. (I have high cholesterol, and salmon is full of essential omega-3 and omega-6 oils, excellent for the good cholesterol.) Grilled salmon is to die for. Have you tried it? GREAT protein, girlfriend!
How much protein to have every day? When I was 47 years old, I saw a nutritionist who gave me a meal plan of 1,445 calories a day, based on my fitness level (I was rowing competitively at the time), consisting of 1/2 serving of milk, 8 starch, 1 fruit, 5 meat, 3 fruit, 3 veggies, and 3 fat. (Now, at my age, that's WAAAAY too much, but for someone much younger who has a higher metabolism, it's not.) I don't know your age (but I think it's around 16, right?), but your calorie needs are much different from someone older. I recommend you check out a website like www.annecollins.com/calories/calorie-needs-women.htm and see what they recommend, based on your Basal Metabolic Rate. It's really different for someone who takes heavy exercise versus someone who is sedentary, as well as someone your age versus an old broad like me.
Hope this helps.
Bev
