you say you can eat milk, cheese, etc. i wonder about that. if you are flaring from time to time, then it's possible you do have IBS. if that's the case, then you should eliminate these foods whether you think you can tolerate them or not. try that for a few months and see if your episodes disappear. remember, the reason for eliminating these dairy products aren't because we are lactose intolerant, though some of us may be, but because these items are GI irritants. that means they can cause problems when your system is unstable. i can eat cheese and have a yogurt, too, and many days there's no problem. however, when my system is unstable, these things send me right to the bathroom. i eliminate them all the time so that i don't have to be surprised by an attack.
have you had all of the tests to eliminate other things? did your doctor definitively diagnose IBS?
certainly, if you have IBS even mildly, your anxiety can be having a strong impact. you may notice and improvement now that you're back on your meds. anxiety is stress, and stress is an IBS trigger.
