Insoluble fiber and constipation

Hi, I'm new to the message boards, but I've found the whole website and newsletters to be very helpful. I have IBS with constipation, which seems to me to be less common, from what I've read and people I've talked to. My question is whether I should be concentrating on more smart insoluble fiber choices instead of soluble fiber. I have been working on my IBS diet for 2-3 months now, taking fiber supplements, and watching for trigger foods, but I still suffer from constipation. I can't seem to get relief unless I bulk up on insoluble fiber foods and/or take laxatives (if it gets really bad, which it does often). Is there a formula that someone had tried that seems to work for them? I will try anything at this point, I have been suffering from this since I was a child, and I am really serious about getting it under control. Thanks for listening...
