Yes, I do believe that they can coexist. And yes, you will have IBS symptoms while under treatment for H Pylori. My advice is just to eat very bland food - like rice and boiled/baked chicken, while you are taking the antibiotics, if you can keep any food down.
I do speak from experience - I had it last year. I went through 3 months of daily vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea before they finally diagnosed the H Pylori infection. They then gave me two weeks of intensive antibiotics (2 antibiotics and stomach acid reducers in the morning and the same again at night). Talk about going thru hell, what a nightmare! Then the dr did an EGD to confirm that it was gone and that I didn't have ulcers (both negative, yippeee). After I finished treatment, I was no longer vomiting and the diarrhea eased a little but I was still very nauseated and dizzy and finally was diagnosed with IBS. The dr was no help about IBS info and I found this website and been on the diet ever since then, to great relief of my IBS symptoms.
I would think that your H Pylori infection should be cleared up with antibiotics. I have heard that some people have to do several intense treatments before they kill it all (using different meds the second treatment). I don't believe that the infection caused my IBS, just kicked it into overdrive. I was having symptoms before then, just didn't realize what it was...but I bet it can cause it since stomach trauma seems to be something that can kick it off.
Good luck, stay on the antibiotics. I know it is a terrible ordeal and you will have IBS symptoms while you are taking the meds, but it will get better. Your dr should follow up with you to make sure the infection is gone. Stay on the restrictive diet for a while if you can, that was the only thing that I could keep down while I was receiving treatment. ((HUGS)) to you, I know what you are going through.
