ALERT!!!
Boys and girls, the word "sourdough" is not a term that describes a certain food, as "almond" would describe a certain nut. Sourdough refers more to a process, a way of making the bread. Think sourdough blackberry pancakes and you'll get the idea. You can make sourdough rye bread (I do) that uses butter and oil and milk and eggs and beer, or you can make sourdough french bread (water and flour and yeast and salt ONLY -- no milk nor oil) or sourdough waffles with eggs and butter .... are you getting the idea? Calling it sourdough refers to the process by which it's made -- like chicken cooked in a crockpot versus grilled over charcoal -- it simply means that some portion of a sour yeast dough was used as a starter to begin the bread. It doesn't have anything to do with the other ingredients in the bread!
