A little confused about fiber tablet use

I can't seem to do well with the powders ~ so I got a bottle of pills from Wal-Mart. The one I picked is generic - but like Fibercon. I thought it was interesting that it lists acacia as it's first ingredient (inactive).

What I'm confused about is that each pill is only about a half gram of fiber - 500 mg polycarbophil. In Heather's section on fiber supplements she says you should follow the dosage directions in one place -- and further down she says that you should take as much as necessary to equal 12 - 15 grams of fiber.

The directions on the bottle say up to two pills - 4 times a day. That would only be 8 grams of fiber though. In order to get twelve grams I would have to take two pills 6 times a day - which is an extra 4 pills above the label directions.

Does that matter? Which should I do? Right now I am still building up -- and only take 5 pills.
