The endoscopy actually looks at the villi (little finger-like projections) on the wall of your intestines. With celiac there is damage to these villi which are responsible for absorbing the nutrients from your food. In some cases the villi are flat or gone and the food goes right thru with no vitamin/mineral absorption. Which is why celiacs eating gluten get malnourished! When a celiac eats gluten free the villi grow back and all is well with time.
