I think I've had some sort of GI problems most of my life, although as a kid they weren't very severe and I just brushed them off. I have memories of eating ice cream and then feeling incredibly sick afterwards, and of sitting hunched over my grandma's toilet after a Sunday dinner. But for the most part things started getting worse when I was in college... I think that's when I somehow developed full-fledged lactose intolerance and then IBS. I wish I knew how it happened... but I guess we'll never know.

Interesting theory about people having problems their whole lives. Digestive problems run in my family, and my mother has IBS, so I certainly think I was born with it just waiting to happen!
