No, no... there's a very good medical reason for what your doctor said. I have the same problem and I'm on Zelnorm too. The problem is that I have IBS-C, and when you're constipated your body builds up more and more water to try and flush your system out. Then, one day, it works finally, but all of that water continues to push things out. If you go regularly your body will stop counterbalancing the constipation by giving you diarrhea. The Zelnorm, for me, has helped regulate all of that stuff so I no longer have extremes.
Of course, your milage may vary, but I do know the medical rational behind that.
