Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

I just wanted to share what has been a God send for me in helping control my IBS and I hope some of you will try it also.

I was diagnosed 2 years ago with IBS with diarrhea. I usually experienced between 1 and 12 attacks of diarrhea and cramping a day and occassionally was given a reprieve for a couple of days to a couple of weeks. I was also taking Pamine at the same time but found little relief from it. So needless to say, I know where every bathroom is located in South Florida.

A friend at work gave me an article from the paper about IBS and peppermint oil. I thought what did I have to lose, nothing else was working. So I purchased a bottle of enteric peppermint capsules from the health food store and starting taking them. There was a difference immediately. I have been taking one capsule every morning after breakfast for two months and I can honestly say I have not had an attack since. The cramping is completely gone!! I still have occassion urgent diarrhea after I eat but I feel just so "normal" again. Sure I expereince some heartburn, burp peppermint all day, and have a few BM's that are "minty fresh" but what the heck. I pray everyday that it continues to work and control my IBS. I am hoping that my positive expereince with peppermint oil can help someone else out there. Go buy a bottle!! It may not help but what do you have to lose??
