well there are lots of different kinds. some are basically fasts where you don't eat anything and just drink water or juice. the ones i've been looking at include food like lots of fruit, and herbs, teas, and LOTS of water. sometimes they have you eat foods in a certain order.
the benefits are that it helps get rid of toxins in your digestive system, and in turn, the rest of your body. a lot of people have cravings diminish after a cleansing diet, too, because the body gets rid of the little leftover things that a person is "addicted" to, like fat and sugar.
i did one once and i lost a tiny bit of weight during that week, but i felt better in general and gained the weight back.
i'm just thinking of this off the top of my head, correct me if i'm wrong, anyone who knows more than me... :-)
