Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | I'm getting assertive in my cranky old age!!

HI folks- I'm proud of myself tonight. I just got off the phone with a Bed and Breakfast owner and
made plans to take my hubby there for his birthday. Turns out the owner is a chef too and offered
to make us a special dinner. In the past, I'd probably have said "Oh, I'm sure whatever you make
will be wonderful." But I am definitely getting more assertive about speaking up for what I need
in terms of my IBS ( not to mention my husband's UC) so I told him we couldn't do red meat or heavy dairy
(we can tolerate some dairy) Then when I hung up I thought of other stuff, so I found the email
of the B and B and sent him a note letting him know we needed soluble fiber with the meal and
gave suggestions. I told him I wasn't trying to be picky, just trying to ensure a pain free weekend.
It took a lot for me to do that because I've never met him and normally would be mortified that
I'd offended someone or come across as demanding. But no more!! Yeah!!! Just thought I'd share
a good moment- Linda
