Whenever I started getting that "feeling" which i'm sure for all of us is different, i'd try to be pre-emptive and take a few tums. Half the time this worsens my situation and i only end up more bloated, more heart-burney, more cramping.
THe other half, i do notice sometimes I end up having to go, so that explains the laxative effect. I had no idea!
My second to last IBS episode which it seems the last three have run together in a very long three weeks, I had taken tums, which worsened everything. Then I took a zantac 75 and also some pepto-bismol. I think either one or both did reduce some of the pain, gas, bloating, but not all of it.
I guess a lot of it is trial and error and knowing what your body can and can't handle. This most recent bout of IBS, which I'm still riding the uncomfortable wave of, i haven't taken anything but trying tea. So far, no worse, no better. But until i get some money, it's gonna be a rough painful ride anyway. I don't have a lot to spend on stuff i know i need and i know will help me. So for now, i'm kind of just playing it by ear and trying to be safe.
