Kelsey and Camille Grammer Raise Public Awareness About IBS

Actor Kelsey Grammer (of the NBC sitcom "Frasier") and his wife Camille have initiated a campaign to educate the public about irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This disorder affects as many as 20 percent of adults in the United States, with women sufferers outnumbering men by an estimated three to one. IBS, although much more common than asthma or diabetes, is often difficult for people to talk about, even with their physicians. Camille Grammer suffered from this condition for most of her life before it was diagnosed 3 and a-half years ago. She hopes that, by talking openly about IBS, she may help others to feel more comfortable discussing it and seeking treatment. Some symptoms of IBS are cramps, bloating, gas and changes in bowel function, sometimes alternating between diarrhea and constipation. The Grammers are working with the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders to educate the public about this condition.
