Welcome to teh boards, Marci! Your question is an age old question here. It is possible to lose weight on this diet and the reason is simple. First, it's based on the FDA recommendations for the food groups. Second, the foods that are really high in calories - the ones that really cause us to gain weight are eliminated - like beef, dairy, fats, etc. You may find that you can tolerate small salads. Try one after eating a bowl of white rice or a large slice of french bread. Make sure you chew thoroughly and watch the salad dressing. Make sure it's low or non-fat and dairy free. As for veggies, and fruits which are high in soluble fiber, you really should try to incorporate as many as you can into your diet. The trick here with the IBS is to mash, cook, and puree like crazy. This makes them much more tolerable to eat. A strawberry smoothie is a perfect example. I can't eat a bowl of strawberries. But if I throw them nto the blender and add some ice and soy milk, presto! I can tolerate them and it even tastes yummy.
