Marci, I don't know how old you are, but from what I gather from your post, you're not a youngster. You must know by now that as we age our metabolism slows down and bingo bango, weight gain! Not a pretty picture.
It's not the IBS that's to blame for the weight gain. A lot of people here actually lose weight on the program. (Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.) While I haven't lost any weight, neither have I gained.
It's not very encouraging, I know, but my doctor told me, "calories in, calories out." He doesn't abide by any particular diet and says I could gain weight on celery. (I responded, "not me! I can't eat the stuff!" He was not amused.) His point was to simply cut WAY down on portions and increase WAY up on exercise. Don'tcha hate hearing that all the time?
As for your last question, the answer is yes. The only way I can keep track of what could have caused my attack is by maintaining my food diary and being honest with myself when making entries in it. Then, when an attack hits, I refer back to that diary, and guess what -- I can always find the culprit.
Any-who.... welcome to the boards, Marci! I'll see ya around.
Bev.
