Hi, all. I'm new to these forums. I was diagnosed with IBS about seven years ago, but I only recently came to understand that it's a chronic condition related to diet (after hearing my doctor's diagnosis, I thought it was simply a temporary upset stomach caused by stress). So for the second time, I'm getting into thoughtful nutrition -- and it's good to be back.
My research on IBS-related eating has me confused about the place of legumes, especially soy, in an IBS diet. One source says to eliminate all legumes, including soy; other sources list them, especially soy, as a major component in healthy eating. So what's the deal? Will I be okay if I have soluble fiber with legumes and soy, or is the gas factor too much of a concern? By soy, I mean tofu, soy milk, and soy yogurt.
