Okay stool softeners are given to those who have a bad time passing the b/m. It to help out with transit time.They gave me those with every child after I went home from the hospital. It's so you won't strain. It's not a laxative, but it helps with passing a b/m. If your taking other medications this could interact with a stool softener therfore you would need to increase some fiber intake or drink more water. Again this is just an opinion, from experience.
