Thanks for your reply, but I don't understand why the term would no longer be used. My chronic burning pain in the upper left abdomen under the ribcage, which is not accompanied by diarrhea or constipation and is not relieved by a bowel movement just doesn't lend itself to the usual perception of IBS so I think most people with this one symptom, which I've just described, would have a hard time accepting such a general diagnosis as IBS. At least I do personally. I feel more understood and validated by a description that fits my symptoms, which Splenic-flexure does to a T, while IBS, as its generally understood, does not.
