In the FODMAP diet book, published by Gibson and Shepard, they advise only excluding lactose (dairy) if you're lactose intolerant. As I understand it, lactose intolerance generally causes symptoms (bloating, flatulence, diarrhoea) typically within 30 minutes to two hours after ingestion. The EFI diet advises avoiding all dairy products regardless of whether you're lactose intolerance or not. My question is this, if you ingest dairy, and are not lactose intolerant, how long before you notice any IBS symptoms perhaps triggered by the other components (casein, whey etcetera) in the product?
