Yes, I took along a number of publications concerning IBS and diet when I visited my gastroenterologist and dietician. I can't say if they've adopted the guidelines but they did seem to appreciate the information. I'm a little perplexed that they aren't on top of this already.
Yes, the first line treatment in the UK is fibre supplements. However, again from experience, the only supplement prescribed is psyllium husk (Fybogel). Not ideal.
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on 'high fructose load', for example, fruit juices. In the paper they discuss fructose in excess of glucose and high fructose load. Do you believe that a high fructose load, of even 'safe' fruits (for example; orange), is likely to be problematic? Personally, I drink a small glass (150ml) of allowed/safe fruit and vegetable juices most days.
