Bloating, gas, and nausea but no cramps - IBS?

Hi all,
I am new to these boards and to the IBS diagnosis in general. My problems started about a year ago and I have been to two doctors. They didn't find anything else so the diagnosis is IBS. I was very excited when I found this website but as I have started reading Heather's books and doing my research, I am beginning to wonder if what I have is IBS after all...
I feel fine some days, and other days have C or D - on days when I have D, I am also really nauseous and/or bloated. I never throw up, but definitely feel nauseous. That lasts a few days, then back to normal, then repeats. I have had really bad bloating a couple of times but do not have the stomach cramps that Heather describes as a hallmark sign of IBS.
Is there anyone else with these symptoms? Does not having the stomach pains and cramps mean that it is probably not IBS?
I should probably also add that I am in an intense doctoral program, so stress is definitely a factor, but not one I can really eliminate (unless I quit - which I have considered but know I won't really do). I am so sick and tired of feeling like this, not getting any help from doctors, and feeling overwhelmed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
