I'm in the same boat now, having had my appendix taken out just over a week ago and was wanting to see if anyone had advice about post-surgical recovery.
I've had IBS-A for a bit over ten years and had gotten to the point where I knew my triggers in some detail and my digestion was pretty damn stable, as long as I didn't do anything stupid (e.g. chocolate on an empty stomach, etc.) However, in April, I caught influenza, which gave me epic D, so much that I ended up on a drip being rehydrated in the local hospital. Since then my IBS has noticeably regressed, where things that haven't set me off for years are triggering attacks, although thankfully I know to start on the mebeverine tablets and fibre supplements to calm things down asap.
But. Appendicitis. Not only did I not eat for four days, but I've had intestinal surgery, complete with CO2 inflation of the stomach. I'm now a week afterwards and everything seems to be moving regularly enough, despite a good bit of mucus coming through, but it's still with the help of a full dose of medication and retrenching to a very conservative diet. Does anyone have any similar experiences with appendix surgery, who might be able to say if they ever managed to get back to their pre-op condition? I'd love to know if its possible to get back that level of stability in a matter of weeks/months or if its going to take me another ten years to balance everything out again?
