It is known that a course of antibiotics may improve IBS symptoms in the short term. However in the long term they tend to return which leads to the question about long term use of antibiotics. This is part of the reason that the FDA didn't approve the non-absorbable antibiotic rifaximin for managing non-IBS-C symptoms.

If I had to live on my current diet without any symptoms I would gladly do so. Perhaps it might be wise to proceed slowly.
