I am pleased to hear you have a doctor that pays attention and is willing to be flexible. You are fortunate. It took me many years for find a good GP - I have yet to find a good GI doc.

I am confused about something. You might ask the doc to explain how a lactulose breath test is used to check for sugar intolerances. It is my understanding that the lactulose test is for SIBO only and that fructose and lactose malabsorption can exist independent of SIBO. They require their separate tests.

There is something else that puzzles me. Over the past few years a number of researchers have shown the lactulose test for SIBO in IBS patients is suspect. Here is the abstract of one of the latest article. During a UNC chat which are advertised here from time to time, I had a chance to ask Dr. Drossman, an internationally known GI doctor and researcher, if there was a reliable way to diagnose for SIBO in IBS patients. He said the use of glucose instead of lactulose is more reliable. You might gently ask for clarification on this issue without questioning his authority
