Remember you can't always feel the spasms that cause bloat but it is spasms that cause B, C and D. The act of eating triggers the brain to send signals to the gut to stop moving in a nice, normal pattern and start moving in a spasmy way. The uneven contractions cause the bloat- that is why much of the time the pain will be centered on a specific stretch of intestine. For me the pain can be very low and very sharp, high and light with huge bloating, in the middle in one spot and medium in pain, etc etc.
I also bloat after almost everything I eat, but not breakfast or AM. Sometimes it is obvious the bloating would be eased after a lunch or dinner BM. Other times the bloating is eased from just walking/exercising. I am a professional gardener Apr-Oct and my bloating goes away in the garden. As Heather says, how you eat is as important as what you eat. When I was starving from gardening and came home and devoured two bowls of safe cereal I got bad bloat and pain but that same cereal in another situation causes no problems at all. Easing the gut through the day without issues is all we can try to do- being proactive and preventing the bloating helps a lot.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
