You are going through the mourning stage for your "old life". It does not matter whether you are D or C, drinking can exacerbate your symptoms. How do you know that when you take that drink, that you are not becoming more C with the bloating/gas? You don't have to have D to have a problem with a trigger. Chronic C is just as big an issue, as you well know.
You will have to make changes, if you want to feel better. It is what it is.
