robbiej- I have also tried a number of things to get my IBS under control. I have not actually tried the SCD, but another similar antifungal diet (a lot more food choices!) which eliminates all grains and higher sugar veggies and fruits for a period of time. It is the only thing that helped me get well again. I think part of the theory behind such diest is that it allow one to determine if there may be a food allergy to ones symptoms. As well, fungus can be a cause food allergies. Fungus permeates through the gut, allowing food leakage. By going on such diets (SCD/antifungal), you are starving the fungus as it requires high carbs to survive, and will die in the absence of sugar(carbs). Also, all grains, including corn, are commonly contaminated with fungal poisons, so you are eliminating another possible route of fungus coming into your body if you stop eating these. Bread is a grain and a fungus (yeast), both things which may over a period of time contribute to unwanted symptoms. For me, I do so much better when I eat little/no bread, as well as other yeasty foods.
