Lotronex is definitely different than Lomotil. It works in a completely different fashion than lomotil. Lotronex acts on seritonin receptors in the gut while lomotil contains an anti-diarrheal drug and atropine an anticholinergic drug. However, in order for you doctor to prescribe Lotronex s/he must be enrolled in a special program because the drug can have serious side effects. You can read about it on the Lotronex web site.

Welchol is usually prescribed for IBS-like symptoms caused by excess bile production. Has your doctor confirmed you have gall bladder problems?
