Slippery Elm as a tea

Iīve done a search on this on these boards but couldnīt find anything - apologies if itīs already been discussed somewhere. I ordered some slippery elm from the "Apotheke" here, which I collected today and discovered was simply a bag of bark shavings! I just made it up into a tea by boiling it, tasted not that bad actually, a bit like rooibos - but just wondered if anyone else has acquired it in this raw form and what you did with it? And should I take it before or after meals I wonder?
