Missamber:

Here is is something you may want to check into since I also deal with this along with other GI issues. I have a pelvic floor dysfunction which I just found out about six months ago. Because of examinations, etc I have been through I am absolutely sure of this. Some pelvic floor issues can mimic IBS issues or you can have a combination of both. The only person who can help with these issues is a good, QUALIFIED physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction. I started going to a PT who was not knowledgeable enough and I got nowhere. I have now changed to a female physical therapist who is very qualified and only deals with female pelvic floor problems. Many GI doctors send patients to her when they have just run out of options for treating pain believing that the pelvic floor may be involved. I have learned so much about this in the last several months it is unbelievable. There are many trigger spots in your pelvic floor which can cause a myriad of problems (including pain) if something is wrong. This happens with women a lot more than men (of course) due to many factors, the way we're built, giving birth, hormones, chronic constipation, etc. Also people who are runners all of their life many times end up later on with a pelvic floor problem. Please do not think that I am trying to tell you this is your problem. There is tons of stuff on pelvic floor dysfunction so you may want to check it out. If you were to run this by your doctor and he/she laughs, get a second opinion (especially from a good, qualified female obgyn). If you have a women's clinic in your area, you may want to call them and ask them if they have a physical therapist who deals with PFD. The one I found actually called me back and we spoke on the phone for an hour before I even started seeing her. Believe me, if everything has been ruled out by tests, blood work, etc and you are still have having pain (even occasional) this is NOT normal, even if the doctors say "don't worry about it".

Best of luck to you in your search for answers.

Sharon
