Erythritol is a unique, naturally occuring sugar alcohol. It has about 2/3 the sweetness of sugar. Unlike many sugar alcohols (e.g. xylitol and sorbitol) it is absorbed into the blood stream before it reaches the colon and almost all of it is excerted in the urine. As a result it is unlikely to have a laxative effect like other sugar alcohols.

Apparently, erythritol is not easily fermentable by colonic bacteria. So unlike other sugar alcohols it is unlikely to produce gas and bloating (reference below). A search of the IBS research literature did not reveal any reports of adverse effects.

It looks like you might have to try it and see how it works for you. Please report back if you do try it
