I have always had stomach "issues" but end of 2006, early 2007 my father was dying and my stress at work was elevated to a whole new level. I was drinking more coffee than ever and eating fast food a lot. The result was IBS. By the time I got back home after my Dad's service, I had completely quit eating. My husband was ready to have me committed. He even talked to me about seeing a psychiatrist! Instead I made an appointment with my internist which led to my gastro guy and about 4 months later I got the diagnosis of IBS and within 2 months I was on this diet after finding the website in a moment of pure despair. At first my husband was very skeptical and even made me promise that if I did not get better I would see the shrink. I was very determined and stuck to this diet like glue. I take the acacia and am eating 4 or 5 small meals per day of the permitted foods. It took about two months to get fairly stable but now I am really stable and my husband has become a believer. We have been married for nearly 40 years so he knows me better than anyone. What gave him concern was the absolute phobia I had developed with regard to being away from a readily available bathroom and he was right. I am happy to say that I (at least for now) have gotten past that phobia although I don't purposely put myself in that position. Hang in there with your hubby. He will grow to understand and believe as you get better.
