IBS is functional disorder that the primarily effects the colon or large intestine. It takes food about 5 to 6 hours to after you eat until it pass through the stomach and small intestine to the colon. It takes another 12 to 24 hours for it to pass through the colon where undigested material is fermented. It is quite common for a food to trigger IBS symptoms many hours after it is consumed and after it reaches the colon.
