Please be sure to really emphasize to your doctor how unusual your severe symptoms are right now. It's too easy for doctors to figure it's "just IBS" but there's nothing that says someone with IBS can't get a stomach virus, the flu, food poisoning, parasites, and so on, and he really needs to seriously consider all the possibilities - almost as if you're being re-diagnosed. Also remember that having had something like the flu or food poisoning can destabilize you for a while after you're over it (although in that case I would think the diet you're on would have calmed things down which obviously hasn't happened).

When I had a horrible stomach virus a while back my doctor prescribed Tylenol with codeine. It stopped the pain (thank goodness) and shut down the D. I only took it for a few days but that seemed to be enough time for my gut to straighten itself out.
