My advice it to try Heather's approach - not someone else's (m)

This is the problem with the Boards. They can be a great help but they also can be very confusing. My advice is to try Heather's approach as she describes it in her books and on the Website outside the Boards and not worry about the 10 million different things various people on the Boards are trying. In fact, stop reading the Boards. Read Heather's "The First Year:IBS" and do what she says. And it's going to take more than 13 days to get your tummy straightened out:
Quote:

Diarrhea and pain should resolve in just a few days. Constipation, especially if it's been chronic, can take several weeks after you initially calm down your gut. Please hang in there.

I don't why I keep beating my head against this wall but I remain terribly puzzled by your conviction that "all but the carrots, mushrooms and squash seem like junk food on the safe list". First, I just can't understand how someone can believe that oatmeal; barley; soy; quinoa; corn meal; potatoes; yams; sweet potatoes; turnips; rutabagas; parsnips; beets; chestnuts; avocados; bananas; applesauce; mangoes; and papayas are all junk food. Second, obviously the low-carb way you were eating was driving your gut crazy. Shouldn't you be listening to what your own body is telling you about what food it needs rather than worrying about what "everybody" else says about carbs?

Before you give up on the Heather's approach, I hope you'll read through *all* the questions on her FAQ page. Whatever you decide to do, though, I wish you good luck with all this.
