Hi, new here and been a sufferer for more than 49 years - since birth.
I was originally diagnosed with coeliac disease in 1962, but re-diagnosed with IBS in 1986.
I don't seem to suffer as bad as a lot of others I have read of on this site, but have my 'moments'!

I had bad bouts in February this year and through the episode (I was in Hospital) I came across this site. I got Heather's books and showed them to my Doctor. She was so impressed with the detail in the books and confessed to having limited knowledge about IBS and what to advise various patients.
I gave her the books and she uses them to read up on and advise her patients - and for them to buy the books themselves.

I recently had another bad time and my new Doctor (I moved home) had no clue whatsoever. She told me to take 2 painkillers to stop the constant stomach ache I had had for two weeks!
I went searching on the net and was interested to find a site called NotMilk ; http://www.notmilk.com

It explains about milk/casein etc in milk which is a glue'like substance. Maybe it causes my insides to 'clog' up??

For two weeks I have stopped all dairy and stopped drinking wine (which uses casein) and my stomach problems (as well as my sinuses etc) have cleared up!

Heather's advice includes the elimination amongst other products of dairy and alcohol and this site further explains the reasons behind that.

I still have the occasional bad day but nothing like I was experiencing before.

I'm new and might well be speaking 'old hat' but thought it worth a mention.
