I've had IBS-D for about 15 years. Once I found Heather's info and changed my diet, and incorporated alternative therapies and supplements into my life, it took about 2 years to fully stabilize. By stable, I mean that IBS no longer gets in my way. I have normal BMs just about every day. The only tough time is around my period, which I generally can get through without attacks but I have a lot of gas and discomfort for a few days, which could be caused by IBS or menstrual cycles, who knows which. I don't have to plan around bathrooms and I can make plans in advance without worrying about IBS. It takes a while, but it can be done.
Whether or not 30 pounds is a cause for concern depends on many things (your previous weight, how quickly you lost it, etc.). It couldn't hurt to talk to your doc. I lost about 10 pounds when changed my diet, some people gain weight. It's different for everyone.
