I am going thru the exact same thing. I feel my periods set it off but instead of going away the period is over and I'm still stuck with the IBS symptons. I just got back from the Drs and as much as I love my GI Dr . She still had a blank look on her face when I questioned her about the link to hormones. She seemed to feel I may have some dirviticulitis going on , but I really do doubt it as I've had these IBS symptons many, many..... times before. I think what set her off on this line of thinking is that I mentioned its about week five and I'm still in a flare up. But in the past I have inexplicably been set off and it has taken a month or two or three to calm things down. I will however do the suggested colonoscopy since its been 7 or 8 years since the last and just knowing its not something worse all of a sudden will help my mental state. Let me know how you make out and if you discover anything that helps. I go to the gym and the exersice does help me somewhat. HOw long have you been in a flare up and how long does it take you to get it under control? I don't think most Dr.s understand the IBS has a mind of its own and sometimes just does not respond immediately to the diet. Than sometimes you wake up and its gone?! Oh, the peppermint oil did not help me but don't let that stop you from trying it. I drink Ginger tea which does seem to settle me down somewhat.
