Not to encourage the consumption of extra calories , but I remember that in sixth grade we were allowed to bring hard candy to school in place of cough drops if we wished, because it had the same soothing effect on a mild sore throat or dry cough. I always liked Ricola original cough drops (the brown ones), but I remember that my teacher kept peppermints and butterscotch candies on her desk for us.
