There is some good research evidence showing that the probiotic Bifidobacterium infantis is effective for women with IBS-C and IBS-D.

There is an link to an article in the research library that describes a study of 20 UK centres involving 362 IBS suffers. The number of organism per capsule used in the trial was a million, 100 million and 10,000 million cfu. Algin contains 1,000 million cfu. The study paper concluded that the probiotic was effective in IBS-D and IBS-C compared to the placebo.

Procter & Gamble prepared the probiotic used in the trial and it is the manufacturer of Align
