My daughther who has Rett syndrome and IBS-C gets terrible gas pains that trigger alot of self abusive behavior. She needs daily fleets enemas to help relieve it. I am sure the gas must get trapped at the flexures of the colon. We are following the IBS diet and using the acacia fiber (up to 8 grams right now) It seems like everthing gives her gas and she also does some air swallowing. Would a probiotic help at all with reducing gas or with IBS-C is the painful gas issue more related to functional problems rather than not enough good bacteria? Also if a probiotic is highly recommended, what is a good kind that won't promote more gas?
