The bowel inconsistency and feeling of incomplete evacuation is much like IBS. I'm IBS-D and rarely get real diarrhea, more like just overly mushy frequent bowel movements. Whatever the cause of your bowel problems, eating according to the diet on this website can help a lot. The pain you describe (upper back, around the ribs etc) does not sound much like IBS or reflux. I would ask the doctors to check your gallbladder, liver and pancreas to make sure there are no problems (the abdominal CT or ultrasound may have already covered this). Gallbladder problems can cause IBS-like symptoms along with pain in the upper abdomen. Try to also be specific when you describe the pain, location, intensity and frequency/timing. I hope you find some answers soon, but stay patient.
