Newbie here: Apologies if this is in the wrong spot. I have been casually diagnosed with IBS in as much as it is been suggested. Please let me tell you my symptoms, and I would welcome opinions on this. I am struggling a bit with this mentally and physically. I am male in my mid 30's with a long history of nervous stomach. AS long as I can remember I have had stomach pains and episodes of D (sometimes of the urgent and explosive variety). Over the last several years these problems have become more consistent, and over the last several months I have developed the following symptoms:
Lower abdominal pain cramp like and constant, moves around but most constant in the left and center. This lasts for days at a time and very rarely goes away. At best I can notice it when leaning over something, but ususally it hurts even without touch. Episodes of D (1-2 times per day, 3-4 days per week) Alomst all non D BM's are still loose, and I have a constant feeling of needing to go, along with a sensation that when I will go it will be loose. Thinning stools. Even the normal movements are thinner than before (from pencil up to 1") Tremendous fatigue (especially after excerise) No tolerance for it at all Upper abdominal pain (varies) Back and Rib pain (seems musculoskeletal) Cramping around the rectum
It is worth noting that I have not experienced weight loss or blood (that I am aware of)
My workup includes Barium Enema (10 years ago) Upper endoscopy (2 years ago) normal Abdominal ultrasound and Upper GI (recent) Chest XRAy (normal) CBC Bloodwork normal (Previous SED rate normal, awaiting repeat) Pancreas and Liver and H Pylori bloodwork normal.
I am certain that the next step is colonoscopy and I am awaiting a decision by my PCP to order it. In the meantime I will be visiting a GI physician
Does this sound like IBS? Does it indicate something worse? I appreciate your thoughts. BTW Diet does not seem to have an effect on how I feel, perhaps I am not looking close enough.
Thanks so much for your feedback
