I was hoping those on these boards who seem to have figured out what helps in managing severe IBS-C might be able to help me try to figure this out.
I have recently been seeing a GI for lifelong IBS-C that had become unmanageable. After colonoscopy etc., she determined it was IBS-C and "lazy colon", and has had me taking ridiculous amounts of Citrucel, I am now up to 8+ scoops a day and it is barely working. The Citrucel is costing a fortune, making me feel bloated, causing me to gain weight (200-300cals a day)and freaking me out because of all the chemicals. I also am trying to get pregnant which adds to my concerns. I read Heather's book, and got the impression it was really for IBS-D. I am trying to follow her program and try out some of the things I have read here, but without any real success. Though I believe in her approach and am hoping to see improvements.
My specific questions are: 1) I thought the program tells you not to eat IF, but saw that many are eating IF... 2)I would add magnesium citrate but saw that it is a laxative and thought you are supposed to stay away from laxatives which adds to the problem? 3) I am taking 4T of Heather's Acacia in addition to the 8 scoops of Citrucel and I almost feel it had made me more constipated, otherwise I don't see any difference and it has been over a month. I drink about a gallon of water a day
If anyone could share their thoughts on the above or even share the "program/regimine" that has worked for them, I would greatly appreciate it.
Sorry for the lengthy post Thanks, Christie
